For Real Taxes in Cabarrus are Higher than Charlotte
Cabarrus County Property Tax Rates

Over the last eight years, our County Commissioners have approved two property revaluations and two tax increases. Our antiquated economic incentive grant policy and tax rates have generated a record increase in revenue and also ballooned our county debt to record levels. (See the summary of votes below). As your County Commissioner, I will be a proponent of a business-friendly environment with less taxes and regulations to create more jobs to ultimately positively benefit the citizens of Cabarrus County.

Chris Measmer for Commissioner
COVID
COVID

The pandemic has created challenging times for everyone in the past couple of years whether it be economic impact, the health and well-being of loved ones, and government mandates that have touched all aspects of our lives.  There have been decisions made by the Federal Government and our North Carolina Governor that have created additional hardships on families. Although some of these decisions were appropriate at the beginning of the pandemic, we have unfortunately seen an overreach of regulations, mandates, and an overall infringement on our personal rights and freedoms.  A reevaluation and limitation of the emergency powers granted to our county leadership should be priority addressed on day one, when a new County Commission Board is sworn in.

As a Cabarrus County Commissioner, I believe and will protect the personal right and freedom to choose if a vaccine is best for you and your family. There should be no government mandate forced against an individual’s will, that could ultimately affect their health or wellbeing.

In addition to being a proponent of an individual’s choice to vaccinate or not, I do not believe that forced government shut downs of our local business community, are necessary. I believe that forced shut downs only create new problems for the hard-working men and women of our community and is an infringement of our freedoms.

Law Enforcement
Law Enforcement

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s department is absolutely vital to our community.  Over the past couple of years, we have seen a nationwide attack of police forces and unfortunately many of these heroes have been demonized. I whole heartily disagree with this attack on the men and women in uniform that put their lives on the line to protect citizens and the communities in which they live. As a Cabarrus County Commissioner, I stand in solidarity with our county sheriff’s deputies and applaud them for their hard work and sacrifices.

Growth
Growth

Cabarrus County has experienced record growth in the past couple of decades. As a community we have seen the results of this record growth with new housing developments, increased vehicle traffic, and the straining of our local government resources.  While I feel it is important to increase resources with the additional demand on police, EMS, and other essential government resources, we must address the issue creating this demand. As a Cabarrus County Commissioner, I feel it is important to have a working relationship with our municipalities to help them understand the repercussions of their decisions to approve new growth within our county. Also, as a Cabarrus County Commissioner, I feel it is important to work with the NC DOT to address our overdue road concerns/expansions.

Property Taxes
Property Taxes

You may be astonished and surprised to see that the Cabarrus County property tax rate is higher than Mecklenburg County and much higher than the surrounding counties! Cabarrus County is highlighted in red, with the surrounding counties highlighted in green.

Cabarrus County Property Tax Rates

I am seeking one of the available seats on the commission board to ensure that fiscal responsibility is a top priority and to ensure that we have no new additional property tax increases.

2nd Amendment
2nd Amendment

Our 2nd Amendment right, granted to us by the United States Constitution, should be protected and respected by all elected officials of this great nation. Responsible gun ownership is very important and necessary to our hunting community and ultimately for personal protection. As a Cabarrus County Commissioner, I assure all citizens of this county that I will stand up and protect your 2nd Amendment right to keep/own and bear arms, without any infringement on that right.

Illegal Immigration
Illegal Immigration

I am a major advocate for legal immigration and the need for immigration reform. I also believe that we need to do all we can to ensure that everyone that comes across the border, comes here legally. I support the hard working men and women in local law enforcement that daily work to keep us safe and will commit to provide them with all the resources needed to work with ICE to keep violent illegals off our street.

Education
Education

The education of our children and youth is of paramount importance for the future of our community.  While Cabarrus County School system plays an important role in our county, I believe the freedom of parents and families to have school choice is a right that should be protected by our county leaders. As a Cabarrus County Commissioner, I believe that the per pupil spending should follow the child to the school of their choice.

Business & Incentive Grants
Business & Incentive Grants

Business investment in Cabarrus County is vital to our local and state economy. County leaders must create and allow for a business-friendly environment that prospers new business ventures as well as encouraging current businesses to expand and thrive. Our local government should not stand in the way of retaining or creating new jobs.

The current economic incentive grant policy of Cabarrus County was adopted in 2008.  I believe this is an antiquated policy that should be revised to reflect new and creative ways in recruiting businesses and jobs to our area, that directly benefits the citizens of Cabarrus County.

Unfortunately, the mindset of many of our elected officials is to entice and recruit businesses with the idea that they would not operate within our community begin with.  I would argue that as a county leader, it is important to be confident in our community and that our county is attractive in itself.  We must create an environment of less regulations, less taxes, and not allow systematic picking and choosing which businesses receive tax breaks.

Under the antiquated economic incentive grant policy and the current County Commission board we have seen two property tax rate increases in the past 8 years, two revelations that generated record increase in revenues, and ballooned our county debt at record levels. If only the citizens of this county could see a direct effect of the incentive packages such as a property tax rate reduction, job training programs funded by the incentive package, and hiring of local citizens.

As a Cabarrus County Commissioner and business owner, I will be a proponent of a business-friendly environment with less taxes and less regulation that will create more jobs and will ultimately positively benefit the citizens of the county.
