Effective Leadership. Proven Results. Limited Government. America First.

About Senator Chris Measmer

Senator Chris Measmer was born and raised in Cabarrus County; his family’s lineage can be traced back to 1817 in Cabarrus County. He is a graduate of Central Cabarrus High School and continued his education at George Washington University, located in downtown Washington, DC, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 2009.

During college, Chris had the opportunity to work on Capitol Hill with several members of the United States Congress, as well as contribute to various legislative projects. Those experiences gave him a firsthand knowledge of the legislative branch of our Federal Government. Also, while in college, Chris Measmer had the opportunity to expand his studies abroad in Greece and Italy. While living overseas, Chris gained the appreciation of what it means to be a proud American and all the freedoms that are enjoyed in this great Nation.

After graduating from college, Chris returned to Cabarrus County to help grow and operate the family business that opened when Chris was a small child. Senator Measmer grew up working in the family business and is now a second-generation business owner. As the current operator, Chris understands the pressures of payroll, the challenges of inflation and supply & demand, as well as the importance of good management skills.

  • The Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County WSACC
  • Cabarrus Convention and Visitors Bureau

Issues I Care About

DMV Efficiency

Like most other counties, Cabarrus’ DMV is strained because of rapid infrastructure growth and an influx of Charlotte residents using our DMV. Wait times have surged, leaving Cabarrus citizens waiting months for appointments. To remedy this problem, I advocated for new funding for an additional DMV location in House Bill 125. Cabarrus can expect a second DMV location to reduce wait times and frustration in 2026.

Reducing Government Regulations

As a small business owner, I understand the burdens of excessive red tape. Unnecessary regulations divert resources from job creation and growth. The government should be encouraging entrepreneurship, not creating bureaucratic obstacles. As your State Senator, I will continue to push for deregulation to help small businesses.

Governmental Accountability

I was proud to vote in support of House Bill 402, the “Limit Rules with Substantial Financial Costs” bill, which mandates that any state regulation with a financial impact of $1 million or more over five years must be approved by two-thirds of the legislature. This is a bill that enacts responsible oversight and accountability to ensure your hard-earned tax dollars are not being squandered. Voting to uphold this legislation is consistent with my work as a County Commissioner, where I long advocated for the reduction of government regulations and the size of government to reduce the burden on taxpayers. I have continued my commitment to business and taxpayer-friendly policies in the General Assembly.

The State Legislature requires municipalities to have balanced budgets approved by a certain date; it’s time for the State Legislature to hold itself to the same standard. I will push for the General Assembly to set a date for a balanced budget to be approved to bring certainty, stability, and accountability to the process.

Property Tax Reform

Excessive taxation is often a problem, especially if you get taxed out of your own home. Across North Carolina, burdensome county and local property taxes are forcing seniors and others on fixed incomes to sell their homes; the mortgage they agreed to pay upon purchase is no longer feasible because of taxes. I support property tax reform to protect homeowners from getting evicted by oppressive municipalities through excessive tax increases.

Preserving Our Farmland

Approximately 700,000 acres of North Carolina farmland are owned by foreign governments, putting our food supply and security at risk. I will work to protect and preserve North Carolina's farmland to ensure that agriculture in this state retains the resources for feeding our citizens and the economy.

Our Right to Bear Arms

I am a proud gun owner and will continue to support our Second Amendment rights. Law-abiding citizens should not have their freedoms breached by an overreaching government.

Immigration

Open borders policies have led to so much pain and suffering, including human and drug trafficking, violent exploitation, and murder. As your State Senator, I proudly supported critical pieces of legislation to ban sanctuary cities and mandate local law enforcement cooperate with ICE. These measures ensure dangerous criminals do not continue being released back into our communities.

Education

I support fair pay for teachers, fully funded public school classrooms and school choice. We should redirect funding from divisive DEI to ESL AIG/Gifted, teachers aides and special education programs. A strong public education system is imperative for North Carolina’s future, and we must return to a focus on sound academic standards and reject political posturing in the classroom.
